January News

Happy New Years ladies! Hopefully everyone enjoyed a joyous holiday season. All the planning and preparing and it’s over in a blink of an eye.

December was hectic with MOMs too. A huge thank you to the Christmas party committee for another successful event. The kids had a blast!!!

Our holiday party hosted by Dana Kelley was also a fantastic time. Thank you Dana for offering your home. Seeing the Harry Connick Jr. renovation was inspiring!

As is in my own life, this month is quiet and then suddenly, everything happens at once.

Thursday, 1/11, the 8th Annual Nursery School & Activity Night will take place at the Lynbrook Library from 6:30- 8:30 PM. Its a great place to go get some information about nursery school options for the coming year.

Sunday night, 1/14 we will have a months MOMs meet-up at Connelly Station. This event was moved due to the holiday on 1/15. That night we will be collecting costume jewelry for Bethany House. It’s time to clear out the jewelry boxes a bit! (After all, Valentine’s day is just around the corner, and you will need the room for all of the precious gems your husband or significant other will be giving you, right???😍)

Kathleen Nolan-Kasal  will be collecting any costume jewelry (women and children’s) you or your child are no longer wearing. We will be donating it to the women at the Bethany House. The jewelry will be delivered to Bethany House on Jan 22nd

Additionally, we are going to begin a monthly donation to the Bethany House. Kathleen will post monthly what we will be collecting and donating. If anyone would like to help with this, please let her know. It’s a great way we can help the women and children in this program.

After a night out, our January play date at Cup of Fun will take place Monday, 1/15 from 9-11. Details were in the evite that went out last week.

Finally, we have many members who are not members of our facebook group. This awesome online resource is a great way to get help, opinions, and just exchange general info with a network of current and past MOMs members. If you are on Facebook, make sure you search our closed group – Mothers of Malverne, and we will approve our request to join ASAP.

Stay warm and hope to see many of you in the coming week!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 MOM Year!

Another summer has flown by! It’s amazing how time flies when your having fun. We are ready and excited for another fun, event-filled year with the MOMs!

We are also excited to have new board members joining us this year! It’s with the help of these ladies that we know we are going to have another successful year together.

Presidents – Sonia Bicocchi & Dana Kelly
Membership VP – Jeannine Correa
Kids Events VP – Kate McKeon
Adults Events VP – Christina Maraia
Communications VP – Allison Sheridan
Secretary – Erica King
Treasurer – Elicia Corbett

With new members to the board and several new events planned, our calendar is looking busy! One of the most exciting events this year will be our 40th anniversary dinner celebration that will take place in May. It seems so far but before we now it, spring will be here. We are excited to share 40 years as a community group with all current and past members. Lots of planning will need to happen to make this event a success. We will be looking for volunteers to participate in all areas of planning and an anniversary dinner committee will be created for those interested in participating.
The MOMs are a cooperative group, so we are only as good as our members make us. Whether its a party committee, planning a playdate or a MOMs night out, or maybe something else that we haven’t even thought of (we are always open to new ideas!) – we need your help!!

That being said, we are looking for a volunteer for our Mid-year Taco Thursday event in March. The spring is a hectic time but it’s a great night together. Please reach out if you are able to host this event. =)

Please find the Membership Form for 2017-2018 below for you to fill out and send in. Payments can be made via cash, check, or PayPal by submitting your payment to mothersofmalverne@gmail.com and selecting the friends and family option to avoid fees. If you choose to send your payment via PayPal, you can email your form to us at mothersofmalverne@gmail.com so you don’t have to mail anything. There is a new section for you to indicate how you would like to participate within the group, so we are asking all new and renewing members to fill out the form this year.

The 2017-2018 Calendar is updated for this year’s events. Similar to last year, we are keeping a balanced blend of MOMs only and children’s meet ups happening throughout the year. Last year’s events were all so successful and allowed many opportunities for moms to meet other mom’s and new friends. One event that is definitely staying on the calendar will be our standing happy hour every 15th of the month. Look out for those posts every month on Facebook! We can’t wait to get out and play with everyone!

OR consider getting your own table at the event! This is our one and only fundraiser for the year and we count on the proceeds to help out with all of the fun events we do throughout the year.
MOMs Board! We are looking for the next generation of MOMs to take over the board roles as our children get older and move on to schools and activities that require our help as volunteers. YES – you mommas with the little babies, I am talking to you!! You are the future of the group and we need you to step up to keep the group going. With a great group of women in place, being on the board is a lot of fun and is a very rewarding. And no, you do not need to be a stay at home mom to do it. As a past MOMs board member told me, it prepares you for all of those volunteer opportunities that are coming up down the road 😉 Shoot us an email to let us know if you are interested. Recruit your friends to do it with you! We are happy to share the current roles and responsibilities, but they are always changing to meet the talents, time commitments, and needs of the current board. I hope we get lots of eager members emails!!
